Meet Aaliyah Williams, Library Operation Specialist

The University Libraries are pleased to introduce a new member of our staff, Aaliyah Williams. As a Library Operation Specialist, you will see Aaliyah working at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of Dunbar Library. She provides excellent customer service to faculty, staff, students, and guests who visit each day. In addition to processing the mail and packages that are delivered to the library, she is often the one responding to emails concerning patron library accounts.

Aaliyah is a 2019 graduate of our wonderful Wright State University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Language Arts. She excelled as a student worker right here in the library, and developed professional skills to join our team as a full-time staff member. A two-time winner of the Library Student Assistant Award, she now mentors our current student workers. We are excited to welcome Aaliyah as a member of the Resource Delivery Services Department!

Meet Kayla Hennis, Online Learning Librarian

The University Libraries are pleased to introduce the newest member of our staff, Kayla Hennis. As the Online Learning Librarian, she will coordinate library services that support online learners. This will include maintaining and updating the online Research Toolkit workshops and expanding the Self Help tutorial section of the Libraries website. She will also provide multimedia instruction and support in the Student Technology Assistance Center (STAC) and participate in department-wide reference and instruction services.

Kayla has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Miami University, an MLIS from Kent State University, and a MEd in Educational Technology from Arizona State University. For the past six years, she has been at Columbus State Community College, where she was a Reference and Instruction Librarian. We are very excited to have Kayla as part of the Instruction & Research Services Department!

Changes to Kanopy Access Beginning December 13

The use of streaming video from Kanopy continues to grow and has outpaced the University Libraries’ ability to meet the demand. Since July 1, the Libraries have spent $19,950 on Kanopy videos, exceeding our projected budget for streaming videos by 31%. In order to continue providing videos for academic use and remain within our budget, we will be implementing changes in how the videos are accessed. This change will also provide us a better understanding of the need for streaming videos, providing data that we can take into consideration for future budget cycles.

Beginning on December 13, we will begin mediated access to Kanopy. You will continue to have access to videos that are already licensed for the term of the existing license, but if you try to view a video that has not been licensed, you will see a request form like the one below:

Kanopy form to request a video

If you complete the form to request the film, Kanopy will forward your request to the University Libraries. If the Libraries decide to license the film, it should be available within one or two business days.

You can always see a list of videos that are currently licensed, along with the license expiration date, here.
