Dunbar Library Temporarily CLOSED Effective March 17th. Remote services remain available. Fines Waived.

The University Administration announced the closure of Dunbar Library effective March 17, 2020. Our physical facilities will not be available; however, the University Libraries’ staff will continue to support research and instruction remotely, using our Ask a Librarian and Ask an Archivist services. Millions of electronic resources will remain available through our website. Other services will be modified or suspended. Details are below. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

Online Assistance

Ask A Librarian online chat and email service – Open Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Our librarians are great at online assistance, they’ve been providing service in this format for over 20 years.

Ask An Archivist online chat and email service open Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Research Guides – start your library research using a custom guide for your discipline or class and contact your subject librarian for assistance.

Research Toolkit Workshops: Our online workshops explain some of the foundational concepts of information literacy that help students in their library research https://guides.libraries.wright.edu/researchtoolkit. There are also a variety of videos that explain different library processes and procedures available at https://libraries.wright.edu/selfhelp

Borrowing/Returning Materials and Fines

For those who currently have library materials checked out, most items will be automatically renewed. For non-renewable items, any fines accrued will be waived when Wright State resumes face-to-face classes. Reserve items will be looked at on a case-by-case basis. OhioLINK and Interlibrary Loan Requests

Many OhioLINK libraries are closing this week and as a result, borrowing and delivery will be suspended. If you have a physical item on our hold shelf, please email [email protected] to discuss options for picking up these items.

We will do our best to fill your Interlibrary loan requests for electronic items. Please be aware that many public and academic libraries are closing and we may have difficulty borrowing materials. Items that are available will be delivered to a users’ ILLiad account.

UPDATED. PLEASE SEE OUR CURRENT POST. The Dunbar Library remains open with regular semester hours. We recommend you review the Libraries’ hours prior to your visit as our situation may change. For the health and safety of our staff, we have closed several of our physical service points. We continue to offer remote assistance through our Ask services.

Effective immediately, public service hours are as follows:

Ask A Librarian online chat service – Open Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Circulation Desk – 1st Floor – open all library hours, call us at 937-775-2525 for questions about library hours, circulation, OhioLINK requests, Course Reserves, or Interlibrary Loan. If you are visiting in person, ring the bell for service.

Information Desk – 2nd Floor – closed, use Ask a Librarian

Bookable Rooms – closed

Student Technology Assistance Center (STAC) – Open all library hours; not staffed, use Ask a Librarian

Special Collections and Archives – closed. Ask An Archivist online chat service open Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Computers, printers, and scanners are available; however, many computers are temporarily closed in order to maintain the recommended Ohio Department of Health guidelines for social distancing. We encourage all library users to actively practice preventative measures, including appropriate social distancing and good hygiene practices while using our library. Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer dispensers are both available throughout the Dunbar Library. Many of the resources below are temporarily opened from publishers; some require a user account be established.

Online assistance from WSU professional librarians and archivists through the Ask a Librarian and Ask an Archivist services. Hours may vary however both services will be available as long as Wright State University classes remain in session.

Return, Request, No-Contact Pick-Up of Library Materials

The University Libraries have made arrangements for item requesting in our local online catalog and no-contact pick-up. More information can be found in a separate news post.

Sources to help students do effective scholarly research

Research Toolkit Workshops: Our online workshops explain some of the foundational concepts of information literacy that help students in their library research and are available as Pilot modules with quizzes. There are also a variety of videos that explain different library processes and procedures available.

Research Guides: Our custom research guides curate recommended databases, website, books, and other sources to start students on their way to successful scholarly research. Guides are available for all disciplines and some specific courses. If you would like our librarians to create a customized class guide for research projects your students will be working on these new few weeks, or if you have any questions about how the library can work with you and your students, please contact your subject librarian.

Streaming Media

  • Kanopy Streaming Videos – Kanopy is a large library of streaming videos covering a broad range of subjects in the arts and humanities, social sciences, sciences, education, business, film, and theatre. It includes documentaries, classic and independent films from major distributors such as PBS, BBC, Criterion, and the Media Education Foundation. Videos that are already licensed for classroom use at WSU may be embedded in pilot courses. A list of those licensed videos is available on our Kanopy Research Guide.

Copyright Assistance

A not-so-secret society of copyright librarians is offering assistance for faculty/instructors and folks helping faculty/instructors transition their courses online. We are offering virtual copyright booth hours to help address questions people might have. Please consider sharing with your colleagues at other institutions, if it will be helpful, to anyone working with course materials and supporting a move to virtual instruction.

Dunbar Library Hours and Services During COVID-19 Contingency Period

UPDATED. PLEASE SEE OUR CURRENT POST. The Dunbar Library is currently open with regular semester hours throughout the March 30th campus contingency period for COVID-19. We welcome our faculty, staff, students and community members to the library to complete your online courses, research, and individual study. We recommend you review the Libraries’ hours prior to your visit as our situation may change as this virus situation develops.

President Edwards said in her email to campus, “one of the best ways to prevent the spread of viral illness is to minimize the circumstances in which individuals may interact and transmit disease.” With this in mind, we are taking precautions to keep our staff safe and healthy while supporting your library research needs.

We will have library staff in the building to assist you, but our preferred method of service will be through phone, email, or online chat. We request that you use our Ask A Librarian service for your research or informational questions. Individual appointments will be taken on an as-needed basis only. All library workshops and events are cancelled through March 30th.
