Dunbar Library Hours and Services During COVID-19 Contingency Period

UPDATED. PLEASE SEE OUR CURRENT POST. The Dunbar Library is currently open with regular semester hours throughout the March 30th campus contingency period for COVID-19. We welcome our faculty, staff, students and community members to the library to complete your online courses, research, and individual study. We recommend you review the Libraries’ hours prior to your visit as our situation may change as this virus situation develops.

President Edwards said in her email to campus, “one of the best ways to prevent the spread of viral illness is to minimize the circumstances in which individuals may interact and transmit disease.” With this in mind, we are taking precautions to keep our staff safe and healthy while supporting your library research needs.

We will have library staff in the building to assist you, but our preferred method of service will be through phone, email, or online chat. We request that you use our Ask A Librarian service for your research or informational questions. Individual appointments will be taken on an as-needed basis only. All library workshops and events are cancelled through March 30th. Computers, printers, and scanners are available; however, many computers are temporarily closed in order to maintain the recommended Ohio Department of Health guidelines for social distancing.

Effective immediately, we are adapting our public service desk hours as follows:

Ask A Librarian online chat service – Open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Circulation Desk – 1st Floor – open all library hours, call us at 937-775-2525 for questions about library hours, circulation, OhioLINK requests, Course Reserves, or Interlibrary Loan.

Information Desk – 2nd Floor – Open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or by appointment. Call us at 937-775-2925.

Student Technology Assistance Center (STAC) – Open all library hours; staffed Sunday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and by appointment. Call us at 937-775-2656.

Special Collections and Archives – Open Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and by appointment. Call us at 937-775-2092 or use our Ask An Archivist email service.

We encourage all library users to actively practice preventative measures, including appropriate social distancing and good hygiene practices while using our library. Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer dispensers are both available throughout the Dunbar Library. More information about the campus response to the COVID-19 Disease is available on the University’s website.

Elevator Replacement Project Final Phase

Facilities Management and Campus Operations is entering the final phase of the Dunbar Library elevator modernization project. This phase will take elevator 15L offline from December 2 through December 31.

Elevator 15L in Dunbar Library

This is the only elevator serving Dunbar Library that has public access from the basement to the first floor. If stairs create a barrier for you to access the library, a call button station will be available in the basement elevator lobby to contact the library circulation desk for assistance. There will be signage in the basement with additional detail. For assistance traveling from the first floor to the basement, please stop by the circulation desk.

The Library Annex elevator is also available for basement to first floor access. This elevator is located at the far end of the corridor, just past the CaTS Help Desk.

If you prefer to receive library research assistance remotely, please use the Ask A Librarian service at libraries.wright.edu/ask.

We thank you for your patience during this process as we strive to continue to improve our facilities. Two of the library elevators have been modernized and are available from the first floor through the fourth floor.

If you have any questions please contact Chris Gremling at [email protected]

What should you expect when using the library during the elevator replacement?

Expect longer wait times for the elevator.  You will have to wait longer for an elevator.  This will be heightened May 6th – May 17th during our furniture installation project.  For more information on this, see our blog post in the Dunbar Wire.

Expect to be rerouted to other elevators.  The elevator running from the 1st to the basement floors will be closed for about 5 weeks in September and October.  During this time, alternative elevators must be used.  Information about alternative methods of ingress/egress will be announced in August.

Expect the same helpful and friendly staff.  Our staff will be here providing our full array of services throughout the improvement process.  If you would prefer to get assistance remotely, please use our Ask A Librarian service.

For more information on library access and services, please contact Sue Polanka, University Librarian at [email protected].
