Featured in the Catalog

The faculty of Wright State University make great contributions to their scholarly fields. The University Libraries are doing our best to make their work a bit easier for you to discover and find through our social media channels!

On Fridays, the libraries are featuring faculty who have books available in the University Libraries’ catalog. Social media posts include a picture of the faculty member inside the libraries with their books. Each post includes a link to the catalog entry for the book, so you can easily find it. If you’re interested in having your publication related to your scholarship featured on the libraries’ social media platforms, contact library-social@wright.edu or contact your subject librarian.

Free Trademark Basics Workshop – It’s All in a Name

The Wright State University Libraries’ Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) is offering a free trademark workshop for beginning entrepreneurs and small businesses. The workshop will be held Saturday, December 11, 10:30am to 12:30pm in room 241/242 Dunbar Library.

Trademarks are important unique identifiers for commerce, and are a critical piece of a business’ intellectual property. This workshop will provide a foundation for those looking to get a trademark or service mark. Avoid the dreaded “cease-and-desist” letters and the upheaval of having to re-brand your business by determining what current marks exist in the marketplace.

Designed for those with little to no knowledge about intellectual property marks, the workshop will review trademark basics, including the differences between federal, state and common law marks. The mechanics of searching registered marks will be demonstrated using the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Web site and the USPTO trademark database TESS.   A hand’s on portion will allow participants to practice some of the skills learned during the workshop.  A TEASPlus application filing will be demonstrated.  Evidence of use and specimens will also be explained.

Register here Seating for the workshop is limited to 10 to allow for social distancing and is filling up fast! If you cannot attend this workshop but want more information, contact Ran Raider, government and history librarian for the University Libraries, at ran.raider@wright.edu or by calling (937) 775-3521.

In 2000, the Wright State University Libraries were designated a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).  The PTRC is a regional public outreach program supported by the USPTO.

University Libraries Announce New Student Advisory Board, Invite Nominations

bulletin board that says join us

As part of the ongoing mission of the University Libraries to support success through access to exceptional research services and resources, we are pleased to announce the creation of a Student Advisory Board. The Board’s primary purpose will be to provide students direct access to library leadership to communicate the evolving needs of Wright State’s diverse student body. Student members of the Board will advise the Libraries on issues related to library spaces, services, and resources.

Nominations for student representatives will be solicited from offices and organizations across the University to represent a variety of student perspectives and needs. Nominations for student representatives will be solicited from the following organizations and units:

  • Student Government Association
  • Graduate Student Assembly
  • Office of Disability Services
  • Transfer Student Resource Center
  • Commuter Student Association
  • University Center for International Education
  • Division of Inclusive Excellence
  • Lake Campus

There will also be two At-Large representatives, bringing the total number of representatives to 10. The University Libraries will be represented by the University Librarian, Associate University Librarian, Head of the Web Advisory Team, and the Lake Campus LTC Director.

The Student Advisory Board will meet three times each academic year: once in Fall Semester, at the beginning of Spring Semester, and at the end of Spring Semester. We want to know what’s important to you, what works as it is, and what we can do to improve.

We are now accepting nominations for student members of the Board through October 15. We anticipate finalizing board membership by November 1 and expect to have the first meeting of the University Libraries Student Advisory Board in mid-November 2021.

Would you like to join, or do you know someone who might want to join? Click here to go directly to the application and let us know that you’re interested!
