The American Nurses Association’s National Nurses Week occurs annually from May 6, National Nurses Day through May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Special Collections and Archives and the Campus Online Repository (CORE) hold several collections that celebrate the rich history of nursing in the Miami Valley and beyond.
Alice Griffith Carr (1887-1968, pictured) was born in Yellow Springs. She graduated from Antioch College and Johns Hopkins Nursing School and served as a Red Cross nurse in France during World War I and as a public health administrator in Greece from 1923-1941. She was internationally known for her work with refugees.
