Over the past month, we have been hard at work on rearrangements and renovations in the Archives.
We’ve moved, moved, moved, and then moved some more. Just about everything in the reading room is now in a different location than it was a month ago: books, microfilm, shelving units, tables and chairs, even the copy machine! Many of these things are currently being stored in temporary locations elsewhere in the Archives or the Library.
In addition to moving things around, we’re also “deep cleaning” many areas that may have been hard to reach until we emptied the shelves! We removed part of carpet, so our new movable shelving could be installed directly on the sub-floor. (The rest of the carpeting will be removed and replaced soon!) A few days ago, the reading room received a fresh new coat of paint with just a hint of nice, neutral color.
Here are a few photos to give you a peek at the progress so far (click on a photo to enlarge it):

We thank you for your patience during our renovations. We’ll be open again before you know it, and we can’t wait to show off our spiffy new look!
