July 1964: Open area in foreground of this photo eventually become an extension of Sixth Street from Ludlow to Wilkinson. DDN staff photo by Wally Nelson. Old Union Station Gone—Area Now Clear. With the demolishing of the clock tower and the old section of Union railway station, work will soon begin on a new exterior for the terminal facilities under the overpass. The city will use the cleared land for extending Sixth Street from Ludlow to Wilkinson streets. Construction of the roadway is expected to begin this summer and be completed before the end of the year.
