Huffman Prairie Aviation Historical Society Meeting, May 6, 7pm

The next meeting of the Huffman Prairie Aviation Historical Society will take place on Monday, May 6, at 7:00pm. All are welcome!

Patrick Sidley to present “What the Heck is a PBJ? USN/USMC Aircraft Designation system from 1922 to 1962.”

The presentation will discuss the system used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps for designating aircraft.  This system used from the early 1920s through the early 1960s appears daunting, but Pat believes by understanding the “rules,” it provides more information than the systems used by the Army Air Corps or in other countries.

Pat Sidley grew up in Northeastern Ohio and has lived in many places around the country.  Since childhood Pat has had an interest in aviation and history.  He retired after a career in healthcare in 2012 and he and his wife, Connie, returned to Oxford in 2015.  He was previously a docent at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut, the archivist for the 58th Bombardment Wing Memorial housed there and is currently a volunteer at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.  He has been a member of AAHS since 1973 and is also a member of IPMS, the Society of Air Race Historians and the Society for Military History.

The program will be held at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center, Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, 2380 Memorial Road (intersection of State Route 444 and Kauffman Road), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
