The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Xenia, Ohio, Records (3.47 linear feet and 171 megabytes) document the efforts of this local women’s organization. The branch was formed in 1948 in hopes of broadening the opportunities of women in universities. This collection contains administrative records, meeting minutes, treasurer’s reports, fundraising resources, event papers, correspondence, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Xenia branch was founded in 1948 in order to broaden the opportunities for women in academia in Xenia, Ohio. The American Association of University Women was formed in Boston in 1881. The branch structure of the organization was established in 1884. AAUW has campaigned for issues such as equal pay for women and eliminating the discrimination of women in academia.
The AAUW Xenia Branch’s early aims were to establish study groups such as the International Relations study group that began in November of 1949. The organization met in various locations including the Rotary Club, YMCA, and in the homes of members. AAUW Xenia branch supported women entering college with a scholarship for one-hundred dollars among other fundraising endeavors to support women seeking higher education. This branch of AAUW became inactive between 2011 and 2018, though there are other AAUW branches active in the Miami Valley including a Dayton, Springfield, and Middletown chapters.
