We really appreciate all hard work that our student assistants do for us here in Special Collections and Archives — everything from helping researchers in the reading room, to digitizing, to arranging and describing materials, to cleaning records. So of course we wanted to include them in our #ArchivesMonth poll of the staff!
We asked our student assistants: What’s something interesting you’ve seen or done while working here?
And here’s what they told us:

This is from SC-34, Frederick Meyer Papers. The lone ledger in the collection was packed with personality, featuring doodles, drawings, and creative penmanship. It documented the odd jobs the jack-of-all-trades creator had done, from running a clubhouse, to selling plants, to raising chickens. (The last of which, of course, meant that he had to doodle tiny chickens in the margins!) I had way too much fun exploring and describing it when I updated the finding aid. 🙂

If I had to choose one interest thing that I’ve found, it would probably be the historical medical equipment. Medical history is a long standing interest of mine, and getting to see some of the equipment I’ve read about in person, is a very cool experience. Also good for spooky season!
