Last Fall, we received a donation from former Dayton mayor Rhine McLin of materials pertaining to her father, C. J. McLin, Jr. (some of which are currently on display in our reading room), as well as several large scrapbooks, which include mainly newspaper clippings and documents pertaining to hers and her father’s political careers. However, the scrapbooks do contain some original photographs, a few of which are can be seen below:

Clarence Josef McLin, Sr., also known as “Mac” (1899-1966), was born in Tennessee and moved to Dayton about 1931. He was the founder of the McLin Funeral Home and also a civic leader. He served as president of the Dayton NAACP from 1937-1938.

Clarence Josef McLin, Jr., known as C.J. McLin (1921-1988), represented the Dayton area in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1967 to 1988. When he died, his daughter Rhine was appointed to serve the remainder of his term. This photo shows McLin, center, with Wright State University President Paige Mulholland, second from right, on the occasion when McLin was received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Wright State in 1986.

Rhine McLin, daughter of C.J. McLin, Jr., served in the Ohio House of Representatives from January 1989 to 1994, then the Ohio Senate from 1995 to 2001. She was mayor of Dayton from 2002 to 2010. This photo shows young Rhine holding a baby.
